The term “hosting” doesn't describe only one service, but a set of services which offer a variety of functions to a domain address. Having a site and e-mails, as an example, are two separate services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so many people consider them as one single service. In reality, every domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, which specifies where the site for the domain is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain address. For instance, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the e-mail will then be sent to the correct server. The concept behind employing separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one company and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, that comes with each and every Linux cloud hosting that we offer, will enable you to see, change and set up A and MX records for each Internet domain or subdomain within your account. Through the DNS Records section, you will be able to see a list of all hosts inside the account in alphabetical order with their corresponding records, so any update won't take you more than a few clicks. Setting up new records is equally simple if, for instance, you wish to use the email services of another provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2. You can even set the priority for every single MX record by setting different latency. Put simply, when your emails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and if the connection times out, it's going to contact the next one. With our advanced tool, you're going to be able to handle the records of your domains and subdomains effortlessly even though you may have no prior experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our Linux semi-dedicated services, allows you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if needed, to change any of them or set up new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with full control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are switching your emails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
